Growth through a “Yes, we Can Do That” Philosophy

Over the next few weeks, we’ll bring you sto­ries about what con­tributed to the growth of CDN Con­trols, a real Cana­di­an suc­cess sto­ry. Begun in the grit and hus­tle of Alberta’s Oil & Gas fields, they grew to become West­ern Canada’s leader of Elec­tri­cal and Instru­men­ta­tion (E&I) ser­vices for the ener­gy indus­try, and now have their sights set on the rest of the world. 

Watch­ing their growth, under the lead­er­ship of co-founders CEO Dean Fras­er and COO Nick Stew­art, has been noth­ing short of incred­i­ble. So, we were inspired to write a Case Study about their growth and recent­ly sat down to inter­view Fras­er to find out more.

Fras­er and Stew­art met in the grit and hus­tle of Alberta’s oil and gas fields and, over time, saw a need for a pre­mi­um, high-exper­tise, full-ser­vice (E&I) ser­vices provider who deliv­ered on what they said they would do.

So, they har­nessed their com­ple­men­tary skills and exper­tise to cre­ate CDN Con­trols, which pro­vides core — and a suite of val­ue-added ser­vices — to the ener­gy indus­try. Today, COO Stew­art directs day-to-day oper­a­tions while CEO Fras­er focus­es on big-pic­ture strat­e­gy and growth.

Relent­less Cus­tomer Satisfaction

To say they are relent­less about cus­tomer sat­is­fac­tion is an under­state­ment. In fact, ​“good’ is nev­er enough.

And they’ve been busy in that pursuit.

Since 2011, with the sup­port of the Lawrence & Co team, CDN has quadru­pled their busi­ness, com­plet­ed five acqui­si­tions, diver­si­fied their finan­cial per­for­mance, grown to 750 peo­ple+ and expand­ed into the US.
