How Biz Group Grew for 33 Years by Building Disciplines That Outlast Its Founder
Biz Group’s story is proof that discipline, not scale, is what makes a business last. Hazel Jackson built her Dubai-based learning company from £500 in cash into a 33-year, 100% debt-free operation serving major brands across the Middle East. With guidance from Lawrence & Co, she embedded the daily huddle, quarterly rocks, and a clear BHAG so deeply into the culture that they didn’t depend on her presence to survive. That discipline paid off in the ultimate test: a five-year succession plan that led to a values-aligned acquisition by Nema Holding in 2025, with Biz Group’s culture and purpose fully intact. It’s a case study in building a company engineered to outlast its founder.

The Challenge
Hazel Jackson built Biz Group from £500 in cash into a corporate learning company with real staying power, but the industry she competed in rewarded the opposite of what she believed in. Training companies made their money on the one-day workshop: a motivating speaker, a certificate, a happy reaction survey, and a client who moved on. Hazel banned that model from her vocabulary. The harder problem was proving that learning journeys built over months, not hours, actually changed behaviour and moved real business numbers, all while running a company on cash with no debt to fall back on if the bet didn’t pay off.
The Solution
With guidance from Lawrence & Co, Hazel embedded the Scaling Up disciplines into the core of how Biz Group operated: core values, purpose, a BHAG visible from her office window, quarterly rocks, and a daily huddle that ran every working day since 2001, through COVID and past 4,000 sessions. She built three interconnected lines of business, learning, team building, and learning technology, anchored by bold partnership bets with Catalyst Global, Liz Wiseman, and Axonify that she pursued in person while competitors stayed home. Every leadership journey was built around spaced sessions, small-group accountability, and capstone projects tied to measurable outcomes, not applause. The result: 33 years of 100% organic, debt-free growth, a client roster including Jumeirah Group and Emirates Airline, and a five-year succession plan that let Hazel step back into a board role in 2026 with the culture and disciplines she built still running the company without her.
