Introducing One of Our Newer Team Members

April 28, 2025

I’ve just finished interviewing Marty Yaskowich, one of our newer team members who joined Lawrence & Co. in the beginning 2024

Marty believes that, if CEOs and executives come away from a strategy or coaching session with the clarity and confidence to intensely and relentlessly execute on their plans, he’s done his work. I’m sure you’ll find our conversation about the path that led him to this work insightful and interesting.

Marty Yaskowich is a natural teacher.

Born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan of teacher parents (and more in the family), he lived in many Canadian cities as he progressed in a career that ultimately led him to apply his expertise to help others be successful. Marty talks about where he grew up here.

I've had a coach’s mindset I think from a very young age.

There's just something about educating and supporting and seeing people grow that continues to get me out of bed.

And it's not just on the business side or on the personal side. It's all of it.

Stepping Stones

As I completed the interview with Marty, I was struck, in hindsight, that every step of his life experience and career pointed him towards being a strategic advisor and coach to CEOs and executives.

As a coach for his high school football team, a kids’ gymnastics team and later as a teacher at the University of British Columbia, he loved seeing people light up with the accomplishment of completing a task they felt they could never do.

That feeling has never gone away.

We talked about his early career as a journalist and broadcaster when he learned the magic of reading between the lines of what people are saying – or not saying – and asking the right question. Not just a question that provides an informative answer but a question that creates the discussion that needs to happen, in the room, at that point in time. Marty talks about his first career here.

I’m just wired to share and want to see people learn and absorb

and get better and work through all the challenges that we have in life.

The Power of Mentorship

And we talked about the value of mentors and coaches on our own leadership development. The power of working with someone who believes in you and is in your corner; and the experience of what can be accomplished by a great team who believes they can go through a wall together. Listen to Marty talk about who had a profound influence of him below, during his career in advertising.

Because of the notable time he spent in the advertising industry, he also brings rich experience in strategy and brand strategy work, for very large companies. So, for all these reasons, our team and his clients are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with him.

Marty talks about what made him want to become an advisor, and the best advice he ever received below.
